Artists in the Schools & Community

AITSC committee

The Artist in the Schools and Community program has presented the inspiring world of dance, drama, music and visual arts to local schools in Haliburton County for 16 years. Early in 2019 the Artists in the School and Community Program has expanded their mandate of art education to youth which will now include programing at The Youth Hub, allowing an adolescent demographic to be included in this successful program. The talented artists involved in the program share their knowledge and expertise with children and youth with hands-on experiences.

The Artists in the Schools & Community program provides:

  • Arts experiences (music, dance, drama, art) for children, teachers and youth with local professional artists in the classroom or at the Haliburton Highlands Youth Hub.
  • Curriculum links between the arts and other school subjects. Exposure to various careers in the arts and creative businesses. Connections between the community and its schools.
  • Exposure to various careers in the arts and creative businesses.

Each class involved in the program participates in one or more 100 minutes’ sessions with various artists. The classroom teacher matches the artists and their projects to their students’ interests as well as the curriculum.

Programing choices at the Haliburton County Youth Hub is generated with input by local youth.

We are looking for new artist to join our roster for The Youth Hub and for the school.
