Program Administration Officer​​

The Arts Council~Haliburton Highlands is a not-for-profit arts service organization, with a membership of 165 artists, arts organizations and arts supporters. Our members represent a wide range of artistic practice, and we provide programming in the categories of visual arts and artisans, performing arts, and literary arts. We have a following of ~3000 people on our combined social media platforms and email list. Our goal is to support our artist members and to promote the arts to the residents and visitors of Haliburton County. We do this through our annual Arts Directory, a monthly newsletter, social media posts and programming and events.

We are looking for someone who works well with others, is interested in being part of a team, enjoys planning and coordinating and would enjoy engaging with people through social media and in person.

​

The employee will practise and develop skills that are transferable to other areas of the work force, receive mentoring on the job, and opportunities to network within the local community. Through collaboration, communication development, creative work, tracking progress and problem-solving opportunities the employee will build skills to set them up for success in the future.

The successful candidate will work out of the Arts Council office, which is located in the Link Co-Working building, at 5152 Haliburton County Rd 21, Haliburton, ON.

 Access to your own transportation is preferred. (vehicle or bicycle). 

​

This is position is supported by the Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must be:

​

  • Be between 15-30 years of age, at the start of the position.

  • Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or someone to whom Refugee Status has been granted/conferred.

  • Have a valid SIN

  • International students, and those who are here in Canada on a work, youth, or visitor visa/permit are not eligible for the program.

 

Position Description

​

Skills and attributes required:  

We are looking for someone who has basic skills in the areas of social media & communications, Canva, Google and Microsoft Suites, and the ability to keep themselves organized and work as part of a team. We are prepared to assist in increasing these skills through team work and mentoring so you leave this position with stronger skills to add to a resume. An interest in the arts, management, creativity, making and/or marketing would be helpful.

Programming:

​

The Arts Council has a number of arts related programs and events. Some are ongoing and others are one time offerings. All are organized and executed by Board and Committee members. There is a good deal of planning and communicating that goes into each project for them to be successful. The aim of this position is to be an active member of these projects, assisting in the success of each one.

​

Our 2026 programming is at various stages of planning and execution.  You will work as part of the team, including our Office Administrator, Board Members and committee representatives, to plan, coordinate, communicate and execute programming and events.

​

 The Arts Council has taken the lead to spotlight Haliburton County as a provincial hub community for arts and culture events and activities during Ontario Culture Days, September 18th – October 4th, 2026. Our role is to work with the larger community of Haliburton County to arrange for public events to be hosted during the dates outlined. You will be hands on in the coordination and promotion of these events, working with and reporting to the OCD steering committee.

The ACHH is involved in some community events over the summer, and you will represent the organization at our booth, informing the community and visitors of the arts and culture opportunities available to them. Some weekend work is involved.

​

Communication:

​

You will work with our Office Administrator on social media posts, website updates, newsletters and other forms of communication to ensure that ACHH programming and events are well advertised to members, supporters and the larger community.

​

You will be responsible to take minutes and keep notes and records, follow-up with committee members on reports and tasks, determine tasks to be completed and report to the committee chair on progress , things to be completed and gaps. You will reach out to committee members when/where assistance or updates are required.

​

You will be responsible for taking photos and filing them for use in our social media.

​

Events Attendance:

​

You will be required to attend ACHH events, and assist with tasks including setup and takedown, communication with attendees, providing information about membership and ACHH activities, reporting on the event and helping to ensure its success.

​

Additional Details:

​

  • June 15th to August 14th, 2026 (9-week contract)

  • 30 hours/week at $18.60/hour

  • Must be 15-30 years old & eligible for Canada Summer Jobs

​
