About the event
The Minden Hills Cultural Centre will host a free screening of Rosies of the North (1999) on Thursday, November 6 at 1:00 PM. Directed by Kelly Saxberg, this National Film Board documentary tells the story of the thousands of women from Thunder Bay and the Prairies who stepped into Canada’s wartime workforce during the Second World War. Swapping aprons for overalls, they packed lunch pails, donned trousers, and took up rivet guns to help build world-class fighter planes at Fort William’s Canadian Car and Foundry. By transforming a male-dominated factory floor into one with nearly 40% women, these “Rosies of the North” played a vital role in the greatest industrial war effort in Canadian history. Presented in collaboration with the Haliburton County Public Library, this screening is open to all ages. Admission is free. No pre-registration is required.
