Instruction will address the proper use of  various masonry tools, the basics of structural masonry without mortar,  and reference design features with SketchUp. The group will collaborate  to build a dry stone feature collectively.  There will be a strong emphasis on using local stone and designing  projects according to the material at hand. No human-made materials such  as manufactured stone or gabion cages will be utilized. Discussions and  references will also include dry stone walling  and various other manifestations of dry-laid work including ovens,  fireplaces, fire pits, gates, cairns, benches, bridges and arches.
