Highlands!
“This is the first time in five years we have programmed a full series, and we are really
excited about our line up, which includes Juno and Canadian Folk Music Award winners and
Polaris Music Prize and Maple Blues Award nominees”, says Artistic Director Sue Shikaze.
“We pride ourselves in bringing top Canadian talent to the Haliburton Highlands. I think
people know that Folk Society shows are a great night of live music, representing a broad
range of genres.”
The series opens on September 14, with Garnetta Cromwell and DaGroovmasters, a
classic, soulful blues band that delivers a high-energy show sure to bring joy to all. They
have performed at festivals across Canada, and were nominated for a 2023 Maple Blues
Award for New Artist/Group.
Bilingual singer, songwriter and fiddle player Aleksi Campagne brings his trio to the stage
on October 18. Recently named Penguin Eggs and Roots Music Canada’s New Discovery of
the Year, Aleksi wows audiences with his unique combination of voice, violin and looping-
effect pedals. He received a Canadian Folk Music Award in 2024 for French Songwriter of
the Year.
On February 1, 2025, hometown favourite Terra Lightfoot returns with her talented trio.
Their energy and charisma onstage together creates musical magic, led by Terra’s
wonderful voice and monster guitar playing. Her latest album Healing Power was recently
long-listed for the prestigious 2024 Polaris Music Prize.
Soul-folk singer from Northern Alberta Celeigh Cardinal will take the stage with her band on
April 19, 2025. With a confident voice, Celeigh owns a stage and captivates audiences,
blending humour and vulnerability in her performances. Her songwriting has been described
as both impactful and sublime and won her a 2020 Juno Award for Indigenous Artist or
Group of the Year.
The series wraps up with Barbra Lica and her band on May 31, 2025. Barbra is a JUNO-
nominated vocalist and singer-songwriter whose music seamlessly blends jazz, country
