Arts in the Haliburton Highlands

Arts Council ~ Haliburton Highlands

The Arts Council~Haliburton Highlands has commissioned a video to showcase the Haliburton Highlands as a dynamic and culturally rich community that continues to thrive. Scott Walling, project coordinator, explains that the video features the diversity and depth of arts, culture and heritage in the Highlands; showcasing the depth of our arts community through short interviews and work from a wide variety of local artists, including visual artists, performing artists and literary artists.

Camexicanus and Upside Brown were commissioned by the Arts Council to produce this video.

The project was made possible with funding from the Haliburton County Development Corporation and the County of Haliburton.

6-Minute Escape

Are you an artist with a message that fits the theme of “Transformation”?

The Arts Council Haliburton Highlands is looking for contributors to its 6-Minute Escape series celebrating the arts on video.

The first episode of “The 6-Minute Escape” premiered on October 3, 2020 to rave reviews. It featured well-known Canadian authors, alongside local authors, recounting stories related to the theme of “Beyond the Borders of Home”.

Launched as a program to promote the arts in Haliburton County, to make connections within and beyond our community, and, initially, to serve as a source of meaningful entertainment during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Arts Council intends to make this a regular event. It is also a fundraising event with contributions via GoFundMe to help support the work of the Arts Council.

The Arts Council hopes that the second episode will feature artists from a broad spectrum of artistic genres including, but not limited to, visual art, dance, music, theatre, and literary.

Please submit a proposal to the Arts Council~Haliburton Highlands (ACHH) for a chance to have your 6-minute video become a part of the second episode of “The 6-Minute Escape: Transformations” premiering in mid-April.

The initial submission should include a sample video of at least a 1-minute excerpt of the planned final piece.
