July 14, 2015 --Kennisis Lake -- The Kennisis Lake community is contributing $1232.90 to the Artists in the Schools program of the Arts Council - Haliburton Highlands.
Art on the Dock was a studio-type tour around Big and Little Kennisis Lake on Saturday and Sunday, July 11 & 12th, organized by the Kennisis Lake Cottage Owners' Association. Over 30 artists exhibited at 20 locations. It is estimated that 300 people visited the various exhibitor locations. While most were from the Kennisis Lakes, there were a number from other lakes in the Haliburton area and even further away.
Rather than paying a fixed fee to participate, exhibitors were asked to make a voluntary contribution. Because of the strong support of Parker Pad & Printing, which provided the brochures on a pro bono basis, and the sponsorship of both Parker Pad & Printing and Viper Marketing, who split the cost of signage, virtually all of the contributions from the artists will be donated to the Artists in the School program.
In addition, a number of exhibitors had "toonie jars" at their locations to welcome contributions from visitors. These donations are also part of the total Kennisis contribution.
KLCOA President Tony Lepine said, "We wish to thank Janis Parker and Bev and Gary Pike for their generous support for the Art on the Dock initiative, Tayce Wakefield who organized the event, Shelley Beach for her guidance, all the exhibitors for their contributions, our visitors for their donations, and all the friends and family of exhibitors who helped at each location.
"With arts and culture such an important part of the Haliburton community, we are pleased to help the Arts Council provide arts programming to children in grades 1-8 through the County", said Lepine.
When he heard of the success of the KLCOA fundraising efforts, Jim Blake, Chair of the Education Committee of the Arts Council - Haliburton Highlands said "What a wonderful gift from the Kennisis Lake artists, the KLCOA and the sponsors and participants in Art on the Dock to the community. A tremendous thank-you goes to everyone who made this possible."
Since 2004, the Arts Council - Haliburton Highlands, with the support of community partners and generous donors, has been providing opportunities for children in Haliburton County elementary schools to learn from artists who live in their community. The Arts Council - Haliburton Highlands is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing a strong voice for the arts in Haliburton County and promoting arts education opportunities for people for all ages.
The Kennisis Lake Cottage Owners' Association represents almost 600 property owners on Kennisis and Little Kennisis Lakes in Dysart et al, Haliburton County.
